April 14, 2005 

FRANK “OPA ROCKS” PRAMBERGER

PRATTSVILLE – Frank “Opa Rocks” Pramberger, 93, of Prattsville,  NY, formerly of Ridgewood, NY, died April 6, 2005.

He was born April 19, 1911, to Mel and Anna Pack Pramberger in Fileppovo, Yugoslavia.  He was predeceased by his daughter Heidi Drake.  Survivors include his wife Kathrina Zelenka Pramberger, daughter Anna Fartaczek and husband Leo of Lindenhurst, L.I., NY, son-in-law Bruce Drake Sr., seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home in Hunter, NY with Rev. James Schiffer officiating.  Interment to follow in the West Kill Community Cemetery, West Kill, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the Prattsville Rescue Squad in his memory.

STEPHEN BERNHARD

WINDHAM – Stephen W. Bernhard, 91, of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Windham died April 15, 2005 at the Baptist Hospital in Jacksonville, FL.

Born in London, England, he was raised in Windham.

Stephen retired from USN-RET Civil Service.  Never was there a more patriotic American, who loved and served his country faithfully.  He was a proud Pearl Harbor Survivor aboard the USS Honolulu (CL-48), and for many years shared his Dec. 7, 1941, experience with children, especially in his daughter Gail’s classroom.

He was the founder of the Gateway Rifle Pistol Club and a dedicated Life

Endowment Member of the National Rifle Association.  He was a member of Murray Hill United Methodist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.

Steve was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Genevieve.  His loving survivors include his daughter Gail (Richard) Carroll; sisters Margaret Dunbar of Windham and Barbara Moyer of San Jose, CA; granddaughters Julie (William) Ramoutar and Mary (Don) Presley; and great grandchildren Donya, Don III, Laura, Christopher and Tyler Presley.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 19 at the Chapel of the Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., with Rev. Bob Long and Dr. Nate Boles officiating.  Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park, with full military honors.

If desired, memorials may be made to Cerebral Palsy of Northeast Florida, Alzheimer’s Association or Meals on Wheels.

GLADYS MORSE

WINDHAM – Gladys Morse, 98, died on Monday, April 11, 2005, at the Columbia Greene Long Term Care facility in Catskill, NY.

Born on February 16, 1907 in Durham, NY, she was the daughter of the late Gamelia and the late Anna (nee Jeanette) Howard.  She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth.  She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Ranieri, granddaughter Anna Irizarry, grandson Nicholas Ranieri, sister Marjorie Ingalls and sister-in-law Marjorie Morse.  She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was held at the Decker Funeral Home in Windham on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 with the Rev. Dianna Smith of the Jewett Presbyterian Church presiding.  A graveside service was conducted on Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the Maplewood Cemetery in Jewett, NY.

RAYMOND VANLEUVAN, SR.

LANESVILLE – Raymond VanLeuvan, Sr., 62, of Route 214 Lanesville, died Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston.

He was born April 7, 1943 in Phoenicia, the son of the late Clarence and Nina Quick VanLeuvan.

Surviving are his companion of 38 years, Lauretta Quick VanLeuvan of Lanesville; two sons, Jeff and Raymond, Jr., of Chichester; two step-children, Clarence of Chichester and Tara Germond of Virginia; a sister, Elizabeth Bryant of Phoenicia; nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his wife, Ester VanLeuvan.

He was a native and life long resident who had been employed at Hunter Mountain Ski Bowl as a Compressor Operator and Mechanic for many years.  He was a Past Chief and Assistant Chief of the M. F. Whitney Hose Company in Phoenicia.  He was gifted with small engine repairs that he enjoyed tinkering with in his garage.  He was a United States Army veteran.

A Service to Celebrate the Life of Raymond VanLeuvan was held on Wednesday with the Rev. Ralph Darmstadt as celebrant.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the E. B. Gormley Funeral Home, Main Street, Phoenicia.

CARL LANE

ASHLAND – Carl Lane, 86, of Ashland, NY, died on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, NY.   Born on January 8, 1919 in Lanesville, NY, he was the son of the late Eli and the late Leota (nee Dolan) Lane.

He was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Aplin and brothers Lee Aplin, Willard Lane, Jerry (Bud) Lane, Albert Lane and Clarence “Larry” Lane.  He is survived by his wife Henrietta (nee Beach) Lane of Ashland, daughters; Lois Melin and husband George, South Kortright; Sandra Mattice and husband Larry of Oneonta; Carol Garraghan and Husband Guy of Ashland; son Terry Lane and wife Nancy of Myrtle Beach, SC; sisters Amelia Layman of Ashland and Freda Peck of Maplecrest; brother Clifton Lane of York Harbor, ME; grandchildren Debra White, Suzanne Van Houten, Troy Mattice, Jason Mattice, Tonya Harman, James Garraghan, Kristen Garraghan, Shannon Garraghan, DeEtta Lackey and Jared Lane.  He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Lane held several occupations, including Greene County Legislature for District #7 from 1976-1981, dairy farmer, Town of Ashland Supervisor, Justice of the Peace in Ashland, member of the Board of Supervisors for Greene County, a school bus driver and custodian for WAJ Central School District.  He was also a volunteer fireman for the Ashland Fire Company and a member of the Ashland Community Church.  His hobbies included playing baseball and gold when he was younger.  He was an avid Mets fan and always rooted for this team.

Carl was well known for his loving kindness and gentle ways and was always willing to be of help and service to others around him.  He always enjoyed and appreciated nature around him by planting trees and feeding the birds and keeping his home grounds perfect to see.  You couldn’t ask for a better neighbor and friend and most people took a liking to him immediately.  He will be missed by many, especially his family.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at the Ashland Community Church with the service conducted by Rev. Ellen Oliveto.  Interment followed immediately in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in his memory to the Ashland Community Church or the Ashland Rescue Squad would be greatly appreciated.
