February 3, 2005 

Domenick Kucich 

HUNTER – Domenick Kucich, 82, of Hunter died unexpectedly, with his family at his side, on Jan 29, 2005 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. He was born May 1, 1922 to Domenick and Maria Muzic Kucich in Italy. He was the owner of the former Domenick’s Restaurant in Tannersville. He was an avid gardener.

He is survived by his wife Josephine of Hunter; a daughter, Joyce M Kucich of Lima, NY; a sister, Lina Muzic of Delray Beach, Fla.; several nieces & Nephews. Mr. Kucich was pre-deceased by his son Lawrence J. Kucich.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, Februay 2, 2005 at the Immaculate Conception RC Church in Haines Falls with Rev. Anthony Motta officiating. Spring interment will be in the St. Francis deSales Cemetery in Elka Park, NY.

Memorial donations may be made to the Tannersville Rescue Squad in his memory.

Joan E. Pitt

ULSTER PARK – Joan E. Pitt, 72, of Ulster Park, NY, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005 at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, NY.  She was born on December 31, 1932 in Westwood, NJ to John and Adidale Davis Kunze. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Richard “Dick” N. Pitt, Sr., who died April 13, 2001, and her brother George Kunze.

Mrs. Pitt was employed by the town of Esopus as a Crossing Guard at the Anna Devine School.

She is survived by daughters: Cindy J. Burgher of Stone Ridge, NY, Beverly Ann Pitt of Rhinebeck, NY, and Georgia M. Cross of Lexington, NY; two sons: Richard N. Pitt, Jr. of Kingston, NY and Paul H. Pitt of Port Ewen, NY, 16 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan 28, 2005 at the Keyser & Hamilton Funeral Service in Port Ewen, NY. Interment will be at the discretion of the family. The family suggests in liew of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Juvenile Diabetes Foundation of Ulster Co., P.O. Box 24, Lake Katrine, NY 12449 or the American Lung Association of the Hudson Valley, 35 Orchard Street, White Plains, NY 10603 in her memory.

Helen Ratel 

GRAND GORGE --- Helen Ratel, 59, of Grand Gorge, NY, formerly of Staten Island, NY, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005 at the Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson, NY.

She was born on October 28, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by her sons James II and Robert, granddaughter Erin and grandson James III.

A Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Saturday, January 28, 2005 at St. Philip Neri R.C. Church in Grand Gorge, NY with Rev. Michael Cournoyer as Celebrant. A private cremation will follow.

Herman Jaeger

PRATTSVILLE – Herman Jaeger, 67, of Prattsville, NY died on Feb. 8, 2005 at the Margaretville Hospital.

He was born on Jan. 31, 1938 in Lexington, NY to Herman and Margaret Multer Jaeger.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Linda Rappleyea Jaeger, a son Herman and his wife Charlotte, daughters Tammy and son-in-law Virgil Curtis, Julie and son-in-law Zane Cornell, Melinda and son-in-law Donald Curtis, grandchildren Alaina Poehmel, Kaitlin Jaeger, Cassie Curtis, Taylor Andrews, Zane Michael Cornell, Jacob Cornell and Kimberly Jaeger. He is also survived by brothers James and Karl Jaeger, sister Barbara Rion, Debbie Kenneally, Linda Hoagland and Carole Sutton. Mr. Jaeger was predeceased by his son Michael and sister Joan Gonzales.

Services were held on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the Decker Funeral Home in Windham NY with Pastor Dianna Smith officiating. Interment will take place at the Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville, NY in the spring.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lexington Rescue Squad.

Edward J. Mallon Sr.

WINDHAM – Edward J. Mallon Sr., 95, died peacefully at home in New Castle, NH, on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005. He was born in NYC and was the son of Mary (Rafferty) and James Mallon and the husband of Helen Mallong, his wife of 69 years who predeceased him in December of 2004. He was a graduate of Regis High School, Forham University, Graduate School of City College and he was a CPA.

While Senior Vice President and Controller at the Guardian Life Insurance Co. in New York City, he was an adjunct professor at Pace College and the Graduate School of City College. After his retirement from the Guardian, he was a professor in the department of Business & Law at Schenectady County Community College for 10 years. Until his death he was Vice president and Treasurer of Secure Planning Inc. in Portsmouth, NY.

He served in the Army during the Second World War and was discharged as a 1st Lt. He was a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the New York Society of CPAs.

Although for may years a staunch New York Yankee fan, he converted to the Boston Red Sox when he moved to New Hampshire. He was overjoyed with the Red Sox winning the World Series this past year. He had seen Babe Ruth play and well remembered the last time the Red Sox won the World Series. He attended St. Theresa’s Church in Windham, NY. He served as Vice President of the Golden Agers and assisted at Meals on Wheels luncheons in Hensonville, NY.

He is survived by his son Edward J. Mallon Jr., and wife Fran of New Castle, NH, his grandchildren Edward J. Mallon II and wife Kelly of NYC, Kathryn M. Taylor and husband Ken of Portsmouth, NH and Melinda Mallon of Somersworth, NH. His five great grandchildren: Allison, Kathleen, William, Alexander and Madison also survive him.

Services will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 22 Fox Run Road, Newington, NH at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Feb. 18 at St. Theresa’s in Windham, at 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the scholarship fund of Regis High School, 55 East 84th St., NY, NY 10028

Anna Pliatsicas

On Sunday, Feb 13, a memorial service was held at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in New York City, for Mrs. Anna Juras Pliatsicas. Anna was born in New Your City to Marianthe and Stratos Juras. She leaves behind her husband Christ, to whom she was married for 60 years. She also is survived by her sisters and brother, Mary Eoanides who has a summer home in Windham, Helen Savas who lives in Cairo, and Nick Juras who lives in the Bronx.

Anna and Christ retired in 1979 and move to Hensonville in 1982. They had lived in the Kingsbridge area of the Bronx, where Anna had worked in a bank for 27 years. They were very active in the Greek Orthodox Church of the Assumption on Route 23 in Windham. They commuted yearly to Lake Worth Florida since 1984, where Anna passed away on January 9 of this year. She is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx where Mr. Pliatsicas’ Father Vassilios, mother, Efthalia, brother Tom , and sister-in-law Penny also are buried.

Anna was a wonderful homemaker and cook and took care of the grounds and 10 room house in Hensonville since 1954 when she and Christ bough their first summer home. They had traveled to Greece two times, to Hawaii, and to many other places in the U.S. Anna loved everyone and in turn was loved by everyone. May her soul rest in peace.

Joseph B. Jones 

ELKA PARK – Joseph B. Jones, 68 of Elka  Park, NY, died February 16, 2005 at the VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. He was born January 2, 1937 to the late Bernard “Casey” and Mildred Haines Jones in Haines Falls, NY. He was a construction foreman, for many years a member of Laborers Union #190. Joseph was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the V.F.W. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Haines Falls Fire Co. for many years.

He is survived by his wife Jeanette Jones of Tampa, FL; two sons, James Jones of Elka Park, NY, and Jean Jones of Wilmington, DE; two daughters, Shannon Mulroy of West Islip, NY, and Bridget Clifford of FL; a brother, John Jones of Belrose Terrace, L.I., NY; four sisters, Mary Coird, Dunedin, FL, Nora Bishop of Bowdoinham, ME, Anne Siakowski, East Jewett, NY, and Molly Brown, Saugerties, NY. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and fourteen nieces and nephews and 15 grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Russell and a brother, Frank.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, February 21, 2005 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Haines Falls, NY, officiated by the Rev. Anthony Motta. Spring interment will be in the St. Francis de Sale Cemetery in Elka Park, NY. Arrangements were made by the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home, Hunter, NY.

Donations may be made to the Stratton VA Medical Center, c/o Volunteer Services for Patient Needs, 113 Holland Ave., Albany, NY, 12208, in his memory.


February 24, 2005

Wallace Lee Kark

TANNERSVILLE – Wallace Lee Kark, 72, of Tannersville, NY died February 19, 2005 at the Columbia Memorial Hospice in Hudson, NY. He was born to the late Joseph Andrew and Margaret Boston Kark in Shadyside, OH. He was the manager of Canfield Machine & Tool in Kingston for more than 37 years. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1949-1952. He was known for his fine woodworking and designed and created many different pieces of furniture.

He is survived by his wife Nancy McDivitt Kark, who he married Jun 23, 1955 in Poughkeepsie, NY. Survivors include his two daughters; Vicky Kark of Rhinebeck, NY and Jeanne Garde and husband Steven of Pflugerville, TX; a brother, Fred Kark, of Columbus, OH and one grandson Alex Garde. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Nancy Kark Neudhardt.

Graveside services were conducted on Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at the Tannersville Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. John Miller officiated. Arrangements were made by the Aston-Basagic Funeral Home in Hunter, NY. Memorial donations may be made to the Columbia Greene Community Hospital or the Tannersville Rescue Squad in his memory.
